Eye Ultrasound
An eye ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to measure and produce detailed images of the eye and eye orbit (the socket in the skull that holds the eye). This test provides a much more detailed view of the inside of your eye than a routine eye exam.
Your ophthalmologist may order these eye studies if you have unexplained problems with your eyes or have recently suffered an injury or trauma to the eye area. This procedure helps in diagnosing eye diseases as well as identifying problems with the eyes. Some topics that can help identify the test include:
- Tumors or neoplasms involving the eye
- Foreign substances
- Detachment of the retina
- An eye and orbital ultrasound may also be used to aid diagnosis and monitoring.
